CCR 4 Music Video

 Critical Creative Reflection

  1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?

The music video represents social issues or groups by showing what is going on in the music video. The music video was about the thought or flashbacks of missing summer. For example, the video was about what you would do in the summer and in the video there were many activities that could be done. There were fun activities that most people would do in the summer like going to the beach, and these flashbacks are just to remind them of how much fun they had. It has a representation of social group because in the music video you can see that there are people bonding and having fun with each other. This represents social group in a way of just people socializing with one another. An issue that would be portrayed in the video is that all good things come to an end. This was seen as how in the end of the video it was the ending of summer. When the video was ending it was just the sunset on a  building as from the beginning of the video it was a sunrise stating the start of summer.

2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?

The Music Video is a way for people to just appreciate when they had summer. It was a way for people to look back and see the things that make summer summer. To cherish and really appreciate it before its gone. The memories that were made are unique and not something that happens daily. Therefore it was this was a way for the audience to really engage with the music video. The product gives a theme to the audience. The theme of this product being that to appreciate what you have and not take things for granted because you will never know when these things like summer will be gone. The theme then gives the product the ability of it being distributed as a real media text. Because it has a universal theme that can be used in a variety of ways like an advertisement for example. With it being a universal theme it can be a way to spread the message around to people who are ungrateful. It would be a reason to get people to have a better understanding to what they have and understand that not everyone can have times like these to spend with the people they love.

3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

In the film there were many production skills that are seen. Some production skills shown are transitions, adding sounds, and overall the editing of the music video. Some of these skills were only done because of the software that was used. This software was the one and only Capcut. With Capcut there was some features that were not able to be done if it wasn’t for the application. In the video there are transitions that can be seen. Some of these transitions were because Capcut was able to provide it. Not only that but another feature that was done because of Capcut was that it was able to merge all of the video clips that were recorded on different occasions and put them all together. This was very useful because it allowed the clips to be put in the order that was seen in the music video which made it seem like a flashback to a person just enjoying their summer and living it to the fullest. The adding of sound was used when we needed to find a way to get the audio in the background of the music video. It was a struggle at first, but eventually the import of the song was made into the final music video. The ability of allowing me to use apps with features like this made it so I could get a better understanding of how editing is. With a better understanding it will be a lot easier for me to use my knowledge that I already learned from this project for future projects.

4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

This project had many uses of technologies. The main technology that was used was a phone. This was because it was used as the filming device which was crucial in making the music video. The phone was also used to be able to get Capcut and without Cap Cut there would not be a video. Capcut was the software that was used to compose and finalize the video. With Capcut there were features that other software or applications did not have and Capcut provided this and not only that but it was really simple to utilize. There were other apps like Imovies and adobe that just were really complicated and Adobe was not free to use which was a major problem. A technological piece that was useful in the film was an Apple Watch. This was because there was a lot that you can do with the Camera app connected to your Iphone that I did not know you can do. With my watch I was able to preview how the shot would be taken when I set my phone up from a distance. This feature was so mind blowing to me and how i never knew my apple watch was able to do this. This allowed me to set my phone up and get the angle right which was important. To actually upload the music video there was a bit of a halt. This was because there was fear that when attempting to upload it on Youtube, it would not be allowed due to copyright issues. Therefore because of this, research was done on other softwares that were able to at least be able to upload it to be able to embed the music video. Thankfully there was and this was Vimeo. With Viemo there were no issues with copyrighting and no issues with getting the embed code to upload to the previous blog. I look forward to using Vimeo in future project as I believe that it can be used as a editing software as well which would just save a lot of time in upcoming projects.
